Replacement Kitchen Drawers

Now, on to what I think is one of the biggest deals in my kitchen…  A while back, I shared with you my dirty drawer secret and my need for replacement kitchen drawers.

Old, ugly and broken

They’re plastic and dirty and just gross—or—they were…  Plastic drawers be gone!!

Removing old drawers

See all that chaos!!!  It was a beautiful mess!  And since I believe in being honest, please note my UBER fancy canned goods holding up the drawer front I was painting.

Did you notice?  NO ugly drawers…  Goodbye plastic!!  If plastic would burn, I’d have lit those up and danced a ceremonial dance around the fire.  Alas, plastic just melts and I’m sure my neighbors think I’m nutty enough as it is.

I would love to tell you I built these drawers.  I didn’t.  Thanks to the NextDoor I found a wonderful, sweet man by the name of Jack who built replacement kitchen drawers for me.  I am usually not afraid to tackle a project but…   I felt like I had enough on my plate and for some reason, it just intimidated me.  I’m very grateful to Jack and the great job he did.

My oldest son, Austin and his friend, Ben were the BEST!!  They did installed the drawers and drawer fronts for me so I could continue to focus on the photo gig day job and all the other projects I was trying to accomplish.

Prepping for new drawer hardware

Because the old drawers had the hardware built in, new drawers also mean new hardware.  New hardware needed a place to attach…  We had to install a piece of wood on the sides of the cabinet for each drawer slide to mount to.

We used a full extension soft close drawer slide.  And yes…  That makes me feel so fancy!!  And while I’m sure Austin and Ben could write a kickin’ blog post tutorial, there are all kinds of great tutorials on how to install these slides all over the internet. Feel free to reach out if you want to tackle this project and want a little advice.

THESE are the slides I used in 22″ size.  (This is not an affiliate link.  I just wanted you to know the product I used.)

Look at all the space!!  I’m so excited to have REAL drawers!

Before and after

When Ben and Austin called me into the room to see the completed job, I won’t lie.  I teared up.  To go from drawers that are crooked with crooked pulls that are falling apart and have paint that is wearing away…

To this…

was a MASSIVE transformation!!  Can you blame a girl for getting emotional?  They were the last part of the cabinet transformation and have been on my wish list for all the years I’ve lived here.

HUGE thanks to Ben, Austin and Jack for making my wood drawer dreams come true!

xoxo
