Replace built in bookcases
I had an awful headache and spent most of my time on the couch… in the room that’s under construction when I noticed it. A gap between the bookcase and the wall. I only have cell phone photos to show you because it never occurred to me this gap would be blog worthy. Does this mean I need to replace built in bookcases?
The gap
I texted a photo of the gap to a friend of mine to get some advice. As I stood ON the cabinet to get a closer look, I grabbed hold of the bookcase to steady myself and… CRACK!
The bookcase portion came off the wall.
Turns out it was only attached to the wall and the ceiling by a half dozen finish nails. I’m thinking we’ve been really lucky that this didn’t come down sooner.
Now what?
So… What does it mean? Well… I’m afraid it means more work: I’ll have to sand and paint the wall so colors are consistent. It means removing mastic from the brick and it means getting rid of the bookcase on the other side, too.
It also means my possibilities opened up. I can leave it as is or add shelves. Rebuilding the shelves is an option or I can put artwork or mirrors there. I love the idea of some sconces. Maybe these? Or… I could also get rid of all of it.
While possibilities are good, the choices that go along with the possibilities aren’t ones I really wanted to make. I knew I had a good sized project on my hands with this room. Unfortunately, it seems to be growing in size. As fast as I knock something off the list, I have to add another thing.
If I’m being honest with you, I’m feeling a little anxious about it. I didn’t count on having to replace built in bookcases.
As always, I’ll keep you posted on my adventures.

What are you going to put on the floors in this room?
Donna
The same flooring as the kitchen.

Is that writing on the original brick??
Donna
No. It was glue.
