Caulk
This kitchen project is winding down. I still have get over my intimidation and install the open shelves and I am going to eventually replace the baseboards. My base cabinets in the following photos also need to be officially installed. And while those are fairly decent sized projects, there is a very small project to be done that takes everything up a notch—caulk.
I know. Caulk is not glamorous and if you have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy as I do, it may induce giggles at its mere mention but trust me when I tell you, caulk is awesome!
When I added the wall cabinets to where the refrigerator used to be, they didn’t go all the way to the ceiling. Oh the joys of owning an older home. Things settle and lines are rarely straight. So, between the ceiling and the cabinet, there was this gap that sat there… mocking me…
I could have added some wood trim to the top to hide the gap but I wanted to keep the modern clean lines. Instead, I put a line of silicone caulk along the top of the cabinets. SO much better! I no longer feel mocked. And it’s so simple.
I think it makes things look ‘finished’. I think caulk might be my new best friend. If your trim or cabinets have gaps, I highly recommend getting a tube. It’s the best $6 you’ll spend. A tube like THIS should do the trick!
