Easy House Plants

True confession. I have a brown thumb. If I’m going to have house plants, they need to be easy.

There. I said it. Whew. It feels good to get that off my chest. I’m clearly a hopeful brown thumber, though. I continue to buy plants. I hope that eventually my thumb will get greener. Poor plant after poor plant has perished at my hands. Over watering. Under watering. Not enough light. You name the mistake and I’ve made it with a plant.

It’s so discouraging. I see so many photos on Instagram and blogs and all those stylish rooms have plants. They bring life, texture and fresh air to a room. I really want to be a good plant mama so I keep trying. For the sake of plants everywhere, I was getting close to switching to fake plants but not before giving it one more try.

While I’m not going to declare that my thumb is changing color, I will say, I’ve managed to keep these plants alive for a few months.

With all the white in my kitchen, these plants add a certain something. At the very least, they add a little mood boost for me. Since many of you have commented on those plants, I thought we should talk about them.

The plant on the left is called a Sansevieria. It’s more commonly known as the snake plant. Despite my phobia of snakes, I opted to bring this baby home.

This plant likes light. Check. Watering only has to happen every few weeks and it’s best to water it when it’s dry. Double check. I seem to forgetful about watering so this is perfect for me. Not to mention, this plant is excellent at improving indoor air quality. Winner!

My second little survivor is an Aloe Vera plant. I think these are so beautiful! Part of me wants to break off a stem to see aloe’s awesome effects straight from the source but really, it’s too pretty to break.

I picked these plants up at Ikea, of all places. Andy and I had been there looking for some furniture and on a whim, I picked them up. The little Muskot pot was only $3.99. The plants were $7.99 and $4.99 so for about $20, I got some sweet little window decor.

Do you have any favorite easy house plants? Any amazing tips & tricks for me? Having been successful with these two, I’m feeling bolder. I’d like to try to add some more plants in other rooms.

XOXO
